It's Easy, & You Can Do It!

Tire Pressure

By simply checking your tire pressure often, you can increase gas mileage!

You can improve your gas mileage by around 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer. The proper tire pressure for your vehicle is usually found on a sticker in the driver's side door jamb or the glove box and in your owner's manual. Do not use the maximum pressure printed on the tire's sidewall.

Fluid Levels

Keep your fluid levels topped to ensure engine life.

Just like a human being, your car needs fluids to survive. If they were taken away, your vehicle would quickly find its way to the shoulder and beg for a drink.

Maintaining proper fluid levels is an essential and easy maintenance task. Even armchair mechanics can perform this one. It's fun, quick, and can add thousands of miles to the life of your car.

This procedure is particularly important if you're planning on a long road trip and want to travel safely and efficiently.

The systems that need checking include the following:

  • engine
  • transmission
  • radiator/cooling system
  • brakes
  • battery
  • window washer
  • air conditioner

Brakes

Check your brakes often and keep your ears open!

An unusual noise or a gentle tug on the steering wheel when stopping are common warning signs that it's time to check the brakes. A good rule of thumb is to check the brakes at the 6,000- to 7,500-mile mark when tires should be rotated.
